POSITION SUMMARY:                

This position performs supervisory and administrative duties in the development, implementation and management of Jacintoport Internationals power / diesel fleet operation.  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:

Receives direct supervision from the Port Captain; may assist Mechanics in the performance of their job functions.  This position exercises supervision over the Power / Diesel Mechanic Shop employees.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Primary

  • Assigns work to ensure the maintenance, repair and replacement of all vehicles and equipment assigned to the different departments of Jacintoport International. Supervises and coordinates the daily activities of all Mechanics and the Shop Foreman and ensures staff is aware of job expectations and quality measures
  • Review job orders and spot check repairs to insure mechanics are performing all work properly.
  • Review job orders to determine if a third party contractor should be used.
  • Develop, implement and monitor a scheduled Preventative Maintenance Program to assure cost effective maintenance as determined by equipment manufacturers’ specifications, manuals or otherwise to insure proper turn around on equipment being repaired, and a program that will provide cost effective replacement of vehicles.
  • Review the Preventative Maintenance Program every six months to insure that the most current repair / maintenance procedures are being used by the mechanics.This will include an analysis of the shop tools and equipment, including electrical and diagnostic equipment and that the proper tools are used and are in good working order.
  • Establishes and maintains a quality control program.
  • Develop, implement and maintain a Mechanic Training and Development Program to provide needed technical skills for mechanics to perform required maintenance and repair of all relevant equipment.
  • Establish proper working procedures, guidance and direction to all mechanics ensuring proper personnel are performing required maintenance and repairs in accordance to their skill and ability.
  • Supervision and review of employees to determine promotions, merit ratings and disciplinary actions.
  • Develop a staffing analysis which will identify staffing requirements and needs within the Company’s power shop department.
  • Schedule and conduct weekly safety meeting.
  • Follow management guidelines for proper record keeping.

     

    Secondary

  • Work with the Purchasing department to develop cost saving measures in the purchase of parts, tools, supplies, etc.
  • Develop and maintain a complete inventory system, ensuring job times can be maintained, through the recording of all expenditures and income of each vehicle, maintenance equipment fuel, repair parts, supplies, tools, equipment, etc. and determine which are cost prohibitive to maintain.
  • Create a clean and efficient work place environment.
  • Develop written specifications for vehicles and equipment to be used by the Company.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

Required

  • Must have a minimum of (5) five years’ experience in the methods, techniques, and procedures involved in the maintenance, repairs, operations of relevant equipment such as but not limited to vehicles, diesel equipment, top-loaders, forklifts, etc. .
  • Must have a minimum of (5) five years supervisory experience in related field.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and direct the work of skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled employees engaged in repair and maintenance of vehicles and diesel equipment.
  • Must have the ability to read, write, and speak Intermediate English.
  • Must have the ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Must be able to accurately process alpha/numeric information.
  • Must have the ability to coordinate programs, prepare reports and maintain accurate records.
  • Must have the ability to function effectively in a fast paced, team oriented work environment.
  • Must have the ability to work independently with limited supervision and strong initiative.
  • Must have the ability to think logically, follow procedures, instructions and make sound decisions.
  • Must have the ability to function and perform effectively as a Supervisor.
  • Must have the ability to work extended hours, weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers, vendors and fellow employees.
  • Must have the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Preferred

  • Associate’s Degree in areas such as Mechanic and Repair Technologies, Business Management, Engineering or related field
  • Certification in a related field such as Gas/Diesel Engine operation / Fuel systems,A/C & Electrical systems,

Hydraulic systems, Steering and suspension systems, Powertrains, Air and Hydraulic Brake Systems, Heavy

Equipment systems and/ or Service shop procedures

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Subject to physical and/or DOT Screening is required along with other tests as applicable.
  • The employee is frequently required to, grasp and exercise eye-hand coordination and eye-hand-foot coordination.
  • The employee is frequently required to grasp, exercise repetitive wrist motion, and finger movement.
  • The employee is frequently required to talk and hear.
  • The employee is frequently required to stand, walk and exercise repetitive foot motion.
  • The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, bend forward, squat, kneel, crawl, twist, pinch and reach overhead.
  • The employee is occasionally required to lift, carry, push or pull up to 55 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

CONDITIONS:

  • Work is performed primarily in the office.
  • Work is occasionally performed in the shop/outdoors; exposed to all possible environmental factors such as extreme heat, rain, wind and high humidity during day and night shifts.
  • The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to dust, fumes, and airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
  • Moderate vibration though hands when using power tools and throughout body when operating power industrial equipment.

  • Wear appropriate PPE as instructed by immediate supervisor.
  • Comply with all company safety policies, procedures, and rules.
