POSITION SUMMARY:                

This position, under the direction of the VP of Accounting and Finance is responsible for leading the strategic tax planning and analysis of the company and its foreign operations, and the overall international tax compliance and reporting. It will assist in all international tax functions. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. QUALIFICATIONS:

Required

  • A minimum of five (5) years’ experience working directly in corporate international taxation with career progression.
  • Extensive experience with international taxation in Latin American countries (income taxes, VAT, sales and excise taxes, transfer pricing, etc.) is required.
  • Experience with international cross-border transportation transactions is required, especially in the shipping, airline and/or trucking industry.
  • Extensive experience in tax planning is required.
  • Ability to research complex international tax matters and provide strategic tax advice and memorandum outlining findings and conclusions.
  • Ability to travel to foreign subsidiaries to understand local tax and customs laws.
  • Having a substantial understanding of U.S. international tax laws governing business transactions in foreign countries is required.
  • Having a good working knowledge of FIN 48 principles is required.
  • Advanced proficiency level of (i.e., fluent in) English (both oral and written) is required.
  • Conversational or intermediate level of Spanish proficiency is required.

  • Advanced computer skills in MS Word, Excel & Outlook is required.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills and strong ability to get along well with diverse personalities including company executives, tax personnel, external consultants and subsidiary personnel.
  • Strong analytical skills are required.
  • Strong work ethic is required.
  • Strong organization and time management skills are required.
  • Ability to prepare a variety of reports and analyses.
  • Ability to examine and verify financial documents and reports.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment within established systems and procedures.

    Preferred

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree
  • Successfully passing the U.S. bar examination
  • Master of Laws (LLM) in Taxation
  • CPA license
  • International tax experience within a large global or mid-sized company
  • International tax experience within a large global public accounting firm
  •  

     

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Primary

  • Responsible for the supervision of subsidiaries’ international taxes for various countries (i.e., Caribbean, Central America and South America).   
  • Review of subsidiaries’ tax provisions in foreign jurisdictions.
  •  

  • Initiate and present effective tax planning strategies as it relates to foreign operations.
  • Responsible for monthly income tax tie-out between the financial statements and the applicable support
  • Performance of FIN 48 calculations, compilation and analysis, including FIN 48 journal entry preparation and timely file submission to Corporate parent.
  • Preparation and/or timely submission of the GILTI and BEPS data files, and related party payments to Corporate parent.
  • Supervise multiple tax engagements (tax opinions, transfer pricing reports, tax returns, tax inquiries, etc.) and provide tax planning, consulting, and compliance recommendations to the subsidiaries.
  • Assistance with analysis and compliance with sales tax legislations in multiple U.S. jurisdictions.
  • Compilation and documentation of MD&A disclosures as it relates to tax matters.
  • Obtaining updated confirmations on applicable tax opinions/letters from external consultants.
  • Preparation of current tax and FIN 48 tax forecast for quarterly consolidated forecast.
  • Assists with any ad-hoc international tax related matters.
  • Prepares analysis memos and reports as required.

Reports directly to the VP of Accounting and Finance and/or their delegate.  Does not exercise direct supervision over personnel.

 

CONDITIONS:

  • Indoor office.  Exposed to controlled temperature and office environment.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
