POSITION SUMMARY:                

Position entails analyzing tariff rates in accordance with the market value in order to offer our customers through service contracts, the most competitive quote that will secure cargo and provide a margin of benefit to the company. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. QUALIFICATIONS:

Required

  • Two (2) years of experience in pricing and/or related within the ocean transportation and/or freight forwarding industry.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English (read and write) in a business environment at an intermediate level
  • Intermediate Computer Skills in programs such as MS Word, Excel & Outlook.
  • Ability to prepare a variety of reports.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment within established systems and procedures.
  • Ability to think logically and follow procedures and instructions. Strong decision making abilities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers and fellow employees.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries from departmental managers or subdivisions relating to the areas of countries of service assigned regarding rates
  • Strong analytical and reasoning abilities in order to examine, analyze and interpret market trends, competitor’s rates and other reports
  • Strong organization and time management skills.  Ability to multi-task and work in a fast paced environment.
  • Flexibility to work extended hours, weekends and/or holidays as necessary.

     

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Primary

  • Researches and analyzes competitor’s rates.
  • Updates the tariff system if required with the research results.
  • Drafts service contracts for customers who will receive preferred rates.
  • Exercises knowledge of company’s services and aspects of department.
  • Quotes various types of rates (port-to-port, intermodal, over the road, railroad, and transshipment) and effectively work with intermodal department in developing rates as per customer’s needs.
  • Keeps abreast of tariff changes, including any new regulations and changes in rate applicability.

    Secondary

  • Assists Sales Executives with quotes for customers.
  • Provides support to Customer Service Representatives, Rate Clerks and Traffic Coordinators in the interpretations of the tariff rules and/or rates.
  • Profiles and identifies accounts in order to ensure the most profitable rate for each shipment/customer.
  • Keep abreast of M/V changes or related issues as they pertain to areas of responsibility (countries in charge of).
  • Handles heavy contract rate negotiations.
  • Participates in bids performed in Conference Agreements or for specific customers in order to secure cargo.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use his/her fingers.
  • The employee frequently is required to talk and/or hear.
  • The employee is continuously required to sit.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:

Reports directly to the Pricing Manager and indirectly to the Regional VP. Does not exercise supervision over any position.

 

CONDITIONS:

  • Indoors office, controlled temperature environment.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually busy due to open areas and telephones and employees that approach the department.
