POSITION SUMMARY:                   

This position is responsible for performing operational functions that include coordination, and supervision of import and export reefer container shipments.  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.


Receives direct supervision from the Walking Foreman. Exercises supervision over assigned driver, Reefer Mechanics, and Reefer Department personnel.






  • Perform all functions in accordance with operation and safety guidelines
  • Arrange trucking of specific customers’ import reefers and supervise deliveries/return of intermodal equipment
  • Reports off temperature setting or readings to manager, Walking Foreman, Inbound and Traffic Depts.
  • Responds to afterhours calls from the reefer department
  • Infield delegation and supervision of reefer mechanics
  • Manage reefer spare parts inventory
  • Instruct Reefer Department and advise operational schedule, requirements of all reefer bookings, and shipments. Schedule and supervise trucking of specific import reefer loads to customer
  • Provide reefer mechanics with export booking requirements, temperature settings, reefer class, and pick up schedule



  • The preparation of documents to help perform operational functions
  • Reconcile import reefers and prepares the reefer discharge log
  • Advise the Reefer Dept of the delivery schedule for import loads
  • Supervise delivery of reefer imports and export reefer bookings
  • Supervise the receipt and loading process of export reefer containers
  • Instruct and Supervise the mechanics of export booking requirements, temperature settings, Reefer Class, and pick up schedule
  • Performs additional job duties as assigned



  • Must have a minimum two (2) years of experience in a senior or lead role in a reefer department and reefer containers and gadgets. Knowledge of marine terminal and stevedore discharge/load operations
  • Must have intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. 
  • Must have the ability to read, write, and speak English at an Advance level in a business environment
  • Must be able to accurately process alpha/numeric information
  • Must have the ability to function effectively in a fast paced, team-oriented work environment
  • Must have the ability to work independently with limited supervision and strong initiative
  • Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees
  • Must have the ability to think logically, follow procedures, instructions and make sound decisions
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Must be able to work (flexible hours) long hours including nights, overtime, weekends and holidays



  • Ability to prepare a variety of reports
  • Experience in AS400



  • Subject to physical/or DOT Screening is required along with other tests as applicable
  • The employee is frequently required to sit, grasp and exercise eye-hand coordination
  • The employee is frequently required to grasp, exercise repetitive wrist motion, and finger movement
  • The employee is continuously required to talk and hear
  • The employee is frequently required to stand, walk and exercise repetitive foot motion
  • The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, bend forward, squat, kneel, crawl, twist, pinch and reach overhead
  • The employee must frequently lift, carry, push, pull up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus



  • Indoor and outdoor exposure to all possible environmental factors such as extreme heat, rain, wind and high humidity during day and night shifts
  • The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts
  • The employee is continuously exposed to dust, fumes, and airborne particles
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high



  • Report safety hazards
